Red Dessert Wines
2008 Jacquez Port
This premium Port is made from grapes grown in the coastal region of Texas. A classic example of a traditional Port wine, its flavor profile hints of chocolate covered cherries, sweet almonds and nutmeg. This versatile wine is excellent as an aperitif, after dinner drink or dessert wine. It pairs very well with chocolate or a bold cheese such as Stilton to highlight its’ elegant, velvety flavors. Haak Vintage Port has been aged on American Oak for more than two years to allow this wine to develop its own unique complexity and aging potential.
2006 Madeira Jacquez
Haak Vintage Madeira is made with 100% Jacquez grapes, grown in the Gulf Coast Region of Texas. It is made using the traditional “Estufagem” (es too FAH jem) process, where the barrels of wine have been “madeirized” in a special, heated cellar. The temperatures of the wine in the Estufagem average between 102°F to 106°F. Haak Winery’s Estufa was completed in early 2006, and is one of very few in the United States today. Haak Vintage Madeira is the first and only commercial Madeira made and bottled in the state of Texas. It has a deep, caramel color, as well as aromas of coffee, caramel, walnuts and plums. These flavors are rich and balanced, with a long, sumptuous finish on the palate.
We are very proud to share with you the tasting notes of Jancis Robinson for two of our Jacquez Madeira. The scoring of 15-17 points is in "superior" range.
Haak, Jacquez 'Madeira' 2003 Texas 16.5 Drink 2008-12
pH 3.81, TA 8.1 g/l, RS 5%, 24 months in oak, 326 cases made
Very pale rose red/tawny. Smells warm, slightly more occluded than the real thing and of comforting cocoa, but there is not much sign of madeira's characteristic acidity on the nose. On the palate, though, there is refreshing acidity and definite rancio. Convincing! Really racy. Quite light bodied. Just off dry. Like a Verdelho in build. Very clean even if not terrifically complex. 20% Alcohol.
Haak, Jacquez 'Madeira' 2004 Texas 16 Drink 2010-13
pH 3.69, TA 1 g/l,, RS 6%, 30 months in oak, 270 cases made
Mid/pale rose red. Nutty nose. Richer than the 2003. A little raw and rustic. Lots of acidity. Fresh acidity. Pretty chewy finish. 20% Alcohol.
2005 University of Houston Jacquez Madeira

Hilton College Alumni Association in honor of their 40th Anniversary, a portion of the proceeds from this 2005 Jacquez Madeira will go to the UH Scholarship Fund. It is a rich and dark complex Madeira with aromatics reminiscent of freshly ground coffee beans, dark chocolate and spicy Anejo Rum. We are proud to be able to supply the Alumni Association with a bottle of Madeira that will easily last another 40 years. Congratulations!
