Prayers and Gratefulness

We continue to have all those impacted by this devastating flood following Hurricane Harvey in our prayers.  We are grateful we did not sustain as much damages as some folks.  We lost some light poles, an air conditioner, roof damage and some water in our cellar.  We have not fully recovered but are working on it.

Understandably so, sales have been a little slow for us and as a result we are reducing our tour schedule but we are hopeful business will pick up and we will increase the tours we offer.  We also plan to donate 10% of all sales we received on September 1, 2 and 3 to Our Lady of Lourdes church in Hitchcock who will distribute it to needy families of the effects of the Harvey flood.

Our sincerest thanks to our friends with the Granbury Wine Walk, Tiberia & Sissy with Barking Rocks Winery and the Granbury Community for the generous donation to the Dayspring Church to benefit flood victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Because of our friendship and mutual respect for each other, Barking Rocks Winery contacted us, here at Haak Winery, offering to help our community that was so devastated by Hurricane Harvey.  They, along with the Granbury Wine Walk and the Granbury Community, sent us a generous check.

Raymond & I got on the phone and contacted, Santa Fe ISD, Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce and Santa Fe City Hall to see who the money would help the most.  They all suggested the Dayspring Church (https://www.dayspring-church.com/) here in Santa Fe, who opened their doors to feed all surrounding communities.  They have served meals, distributed clothing and supplies and have been working continuously day and night to render aid to victims.  Here is a picture of us giving the money to Pastor Brad Drake and his wife Meredith.

We have participated in the Granbury Wine Walk for the last 5 years.  We have an absolute ball there and now bring as many as 5 couples with us.  We always stay at the Plantation Inn, eat at Joe’s Pizza & Pasta, Babe’s Chicken, Jalisco’s Mexican Grill and the Firehouse Breakfast place, to name a few.  We ladies shop until we drop!  We have to sell all our wines so that we have room to take home our purchases.   I’d like to add that most of us are in our late 70’s and early 80’s and are still going strong.  We plan our vacations around the Wine Festival.

Please remember we will be back and look for us in the alley behind Babe’s Chicken.  We are known for the craziest booth and the best Madeira in the State of Texas.  Please look us up April 26-28 in 2018 at the Granbury Wine Walk.

Thanks to all of you, especially Tiberia & Sissy!  Our community is blessed because of you.

We are so excited to have Hamilton Loomis performing at the winery again!

Born and raised in Galveston, Texas, Loomis is the son of musician parents who listened to blues, rock and soul. Music ran in his veins and, with instruments readily available around the house, he picked up drums, piano, guitar and harmonica, honing his multi-instrumental talent in addition to performing regularly as part of his family’s doo-wop group. “My parents had a fantastic record collection and, when I started writing, I gravitated towards what I’d been listening to all my life. I have a huge reverence for the blues and all it encompasses, but I’ve always been fond of R&B and funky music.”

A protégé of Bo Diddley, Loomis met the icon backstage at the age of 16 at Houston’s famed venue Rockefeller’s. Before the night was over, Loomis was onstage playing guitar with the legend. Diddley quickly became friend, mentor, collaborator and supporter, appearing on two of Loomis’ albums and presenting a cherished red guitar that he still plays. Don’t miss this concert!
